Nutrition Professionals Australia: Australia’s aged care sector has undergone a significant transformation

The newly strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards will be coming into effect on July 1st, 2024, which means every aged care home must comply to meet the standards. Designed to enhance the quality of care and promote the wellbeing of older Australians, these standards represent a pivotal shift towards person-centred, transparent, and accountable aged care services.

For the first time, aged care providers will be required to engage with Accredited Practising Dietitians (APD) to collaborate and assess the development of menus and complete annual menu and mealtime assessments. These new changes ensure that aged care residents’ food and drinks are appetising, full of flavour, varied, meet individual needs and provide residents with choice.

All aged care homes must comply by July 1st 2024. Time is running out. Our team of Accredited Practising Dietitians are ready to help, and provide reliable, engaging, practical training and consultation to your aged care home so together we can deliver better health through better nutrition.

With over 50 years combined experience in creating, evaluating and advising on aged care menus and meal requirements, and with a network of APDs Australia wide, we have the expertise and can provide practical, cost-effective, resident-focused solutions that are tailored to you.

Our menu and mealtime assessments identify the link between food service and the nutrition care of residents, uncover gaps in the provision of nutrition care and develop realistic, sensible and effective strategies for quality improvement.

Our comprehensive menu and mealtime assessments include:

  • Onsite consultation to meet with key catering, nursing and care staff

  • Audit of portion size

  • Review of documentation

  • Review of nutrition and special diet policies and procedures

  • Identification of processes to identify malnutrition and provide nutrition support

  • Quantitative assessment of nutrition provided to residents

  • Identification of how food service integrates into nutrition care

The outcome will provide a comprehensive report of recommendations to meet best practice and the newly strengthened Aged Care Quality and Safety Standards. The report is written to directly align to the newly strengthened standards and can be seamlessly integrated into your day-to-day procedures.

Don’t leave it too late. Get in touch with us today and book a menu and mealtime assessment.

Together we can help every older Australian with receiving the care, support and nutrition they deserve.
